Youth

BENEFITS

Everyone can benefit from regular exercise. Kids who are active will:

  • have stronger muscles and bones
  • have a leaner body
  • be less likely to become overweight
  • decrease the risk of developing Type 2 Diabetes
  • lower blood pressure and blood cholesterol levels
  • have a better outlook on life

Besides enjoying the health benefits of regular exercise, kids who are physically fit sleep better. They're also better able to handle physical and emotional challenges — from running to catch a bus to studying for a test.

Youth Soccer

Westminster Soccer Program

We are excited to announce the City of Westminster and  Westminster Soccer (formerly called Westminster Association Football Club) have transitioned the management of the youth recreational soccer program from the City of Westminster to Westminster Soccer, effective fall 2017.

Westminster Soccer currently offers a successful competitive soccer program, which they have managed for the past 10 years. Staff from Westminster Soccer will work hand-in-hand with the city throughout this transition with the goal of making the transition as seamless and successful as possible.

Working closely with a trusted partner such as WAFC, allows us to diversify our offerings without compromising the integrity of our successful recreational soccer program; in fact, on the surface, most of our existing soccer participants will hardly notice the difference in management.

Registration Information

Westminster Soccer

Westminster Soccer is proud to welcome recreational players to the club. All players must be registered through Westminster Soccer to be eligible to play. Westminster Soccer: 303-862-6024.

About Westminster Soccer

The goal of our club is to best promote the game of soccer to our youth by offering a fun and safe environment in which to teach the game. The philosophy throughout the recreational program is to maximize participation by offering each player 50% field time. Players can play “up” to the next assigned age group to be with friends or for developmental reasons. However, in the interest of health and safety, no player is permitted to play “down” in age group or play “up” 2 years or more. The only program area where we host coed soccer is the youngest option at U4.

We encourage you to learn a little more about our club and our staff, listed on our website, who look forward to being a part of your player’s journey.

Volunteer Opportunities

Our recreational programs rely on volunteer parent coaches. Training and support is provided to these people to help create the most positive experience possible. All volunteer coaches are required to pass a state approved background check.

Competitive Soccer

Westminster Soccer also offers pre-competitive "Academy" U9 and U10 teams.

Competitive teams range from U11-19 and play in the state leagues. Teams are coached by licensed, non-parent coaches. Visit the Westminster Soccer website.

Instructor Bios

Grand Master Kent Hups, our long-time TaeKwon-Do instructor, completed his 9th-degree black belt testing in June 2019. This moved him up to the “Grand Master” level-a very prestigious honor. Grand Master Hups has been practicing the art of TaeKwon-Do since 1974 and started working with the City of Westminster TaeKwon-Do program in 1991 at The MAC. Grand Master Hups has had the honor of training with the founder of TaeKwon-Do, the late General Choi Hong Hi. Take advantage of this rare opportunity to train in our youth, teen, adult, and family classes under the expertise of a Grand Master.

Mr. Good has been a student of Master Hups for more than 20 years and has received his 4th Dan (4th Degree Black Belt). With a background in engineering, he enjoys applying science to TaeKwon-Do techniques, especially kicks. He likes to use an interactive instruction style focusing on answering questions, demonstrations, and clear explanations to help TaeKwon-Do students understand technique and develop muscle control. Mr. Good recently returned to our TaeKwon-Do team to continue teaching the activity he loves.

Ms. Harness started practicing TaeKwon-Do in 2008, finally following her childhood dream of participating in martial arts. She achieved her current rank of fourth Dan, aka 4th-degree black belt, in 2018, and is looking forward to the exciting challenges her next testing will have to offer. A former Hups TaeKwon-Do class student, she loves teaching students of all ages, deepening their knowledge, understanding, and skill, as well as sharing her passion for the TaeKwon-Do martial arts.

Mr. Heyl has been practicing TaeKwon-Do as a student under Master Hups at The MAC since 2010. He achieved his current rank of 3rd Dan, aka 3rd degree black belt, in December 2017, and is working hard to prepare for his 4th Dan requirements. Mr. Heyl enjoys teaching the art of TaeKwon-Do to all of our students.

Mr. Eberling first stepped into the world of TaeKwon-Do during his college years and has reignited his enthusiasm for martial arts in recent years. Holding a 1st Dan black belt, he is gearing up to test for his 2nd Dan later this year. Adam approaches TaeKwon-Do with a mindset of continuous learning, striving for excellence in his practice. He aims to reflect this dedication in his teaching, ensuring his classes are both enjoyable and challenging for his students.
