Tree Limb Recycling
Residents are encouraged to recycle their tree limbs to reduce landfill use and provide valuable mulch. Limb chipping and free mulch are available for Westminster residents.
Hours
MARCH-NOV: Open on the second Saturday of the month from 8 a.m. to noon. (CLOSED DEC-FEB)
The wait to drop off limbs is always longest at the beginning of the event. To avoid the line, residents are encouraged to arrive later in the morning.
PLEASE NOTE NEW HOURS: Tree limb recycling will be closed beginning Dec. 2024 and reopening March 2025. Emergency tree limb recycling events will be held during closure months in the event of tree-damaging storms. The change in hours of operation is in response to low attendance during winter months and to preserve site conditions during the wet season. The Christmas Tree Recycling program will be unaffected by these changes.

Self-Serve Site for Free Mulch
Location: 9920 Westminster Blvd.
Closed for the season. However, there might still be mulch available during Tree Limb Recycling events
Hours: 7 days a week, from 7 a.m.-7 p.m.
For several months out of the year, the self-serve, self-loading site is open to Westminster residents 7 days a week from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. The mulch offered by this program is a product of the material collected during the City's free tree limb recycling events held throughout the year. The free mulch site remains open to the public until supply runs out. Please note that users will need to provide their own tools to load mulch and haul away. Also, please use caution when driving into the site, and avoid visiting during snowy and wet conditions to avoid getting stuck.
Benefits of Mulch:
- Reduces watering needs by reducing evaporation and retaining moisture in the ground
- Assists with weed control
- Improves soil quality and creates free organic nutrients for soil
- Moderates soil temperatures
- Reduces erosion
- Can serve as a barrier to keep lawn mowers and weed-eaters away from trees and other plants
Proper Application:
- Spread mulch evenly at a depth of 2-4 inches
- Do not place mulch against tree trunks and avoid forming "volcanoes"
PLEASE NOTE: Tree limbs, debris or dumping are not allowed at these sites. Illegal dumping is subject to Westminster Municipal Code regulations.
Please use caution when visiting due to muddy conditions, it would be best to avoid the site during wet or snowy conditions.
