Historic Preservation & Westminster History

Incorporated in 1911, the City of Westminster currently covers 34 square miles. Westminster residents are proud of the city's rich heritage, including the history and origins of Westminster as an agricultural community.

The city has established a historic preservation program in order to identify and protect local historic landmarks so they may continue to be a source of visual interest and education for the public.

The city has complied with a number of state and federally mandated requirements in order to become a "Certified Local Government." This designation allows the city to provide a means for Westminster homeowners to gain access to state tax benefits as a result of their investment in older and historic residential properties.

We encourage you to learn more about the city's Historic Landmark Designation program and to share this information with others. As we work together, we will continue to identify historic sites and heritage resources which will allow us to more completely understand the people, activities and accomplishments that knit together and form the fabric of the City of Westminster.
